Mangaluru, Sep 1: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Permannur hosted ‘Aqua Splash – 3.0’, an inter-ward water games event on August 27 at St Sebastian’s School ground.
The programme began by welcoming the guests to dais with the tunes of Nasik band. After which 23 teams marched forward with a motive to create awareness on various social causes led by the ICYM president. God’s presence was invoked through a prayer song led by the ICYM members. The programme was inaugurated in a very special and creative way. Fr Cyprian Pinto, parish priest, St Sebastian Church, Permannur presided over the programme. Fr Steevan Cutinho, assistant parish priest, Arun D’Ssouza, vice president, and Jyothi D’Souza, secretary, parish pastoral council, Sr Joseph Mary, superior of Bethany convent, Sr Alphonsa, superior of Nirmala convent, Sr Mariette, superior of St Aloysius convent, Dolphy D’Souza convener of 21 commissions, Deril D’Souza, animator, president Flavitha D’Souza and secretary Wilson Tellis were present on the dais. President Flavitha D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Fr Cyprian Pinto in his presidential speech appreciated the youth for organising such a great event to bring about unity among the parishioners and wished good luck to all the participating teams.
Fr Steevan Cutinho conducted the games. All the donors and well-wishers were thanked and presented with a token of gratitude.
As many as 23 wards with 230 participants took part in the competition. St Sebastian 3rd ward emerged as the champions, Vailankanni ward as 1st runner-up and Guadalupe ward as 2nd runner-up. St Theresa ward won 1st place and Fatima 1st ward won the 2nd place in the march past competition. Secretary Wilson Tellis proposed the vote of thanks. The members worked relentlessly for the success of the event. The event ended with a rain dance. Ashvia Anna Lasardo compered the programme.
