Udupi, Sep 11: The feast of nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary and Girl Child Day was celebrated at St Cecily's English Medium Hr Pry School on September 6. 

A festal entertainment programme hosted by the students of class 6C commenced with meaningful prayer service imploring divine blessings on all the children especially on every girl child. Flowers were to Mother Mary as a symbol of love and respect to imbibe her virtues in their life.

The skit enacted portrayed that Novenas help to open oneself to God in order to increase faith and grow in the love of God. They bring peace and joy, regardless of the answer one has received to the petition.

The first step towards protecting a girl begins at home. The dance drama insisted upon the need to encourage family members, neighbours, friends and relatives to protect the girl child.

Faculty Vidya introduced the chief guest, Dr Maria Pais to the audience. Dr Maria in her presidential address touched upon issues such as women empowerment and gender equality. She encouraged the students to modify their behaviour and outlook towards themselves and other genders. Students were advised to follow a healthy diet in order to be happy and healthy and also to help the needy in their daily life.
