Headmistress arrested for forcing children to clean toilet in Bengaluru govt school

Bengaluru, Dec 23 (IANS): The police on Saturday arrested the headmistress of a government school here for allegedly making the children to clean toilets.

Laxmidevamma, the headmistress in the Andrahalli Government Model Higher Primary school in Bengaluru. The arrest was made following the complaint by the Block Education Officer (BEO) Anjinappa in this regard with the Byadarahalli police station.

The accused headmistress will be produced before the court on Saturday. As per the officials, Class 6 students were asked to clean the school toilets by using acid. The parents after coming to know about the incident staged a protest before the school.

Lakshmidevamma was suspended by the Department of Education after the incident came to light on Friday.

The Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka had visited the school and slammed the Congress government over the development. He had charged that the government seems to be not alive in the state.

The development has proved to be an embarrassment for the Congress government and especially CM Siddaramaiah. The incident of school children being asked to clean the septic tank in the premises of the school in Kolar district was also reported recently.

Why should the toilets be cleaned by students?Instead everyschool has teachers or a attendant .Teachers too can look into this .Not a shame to clean toilets. In Indians mind it is deeprooted that toilet cleaning is a very low job ,but self dirting is not seen as lower one ?Second why they are using acid to clean ?Thats not good.Instead can use dettol or Phynil diluted you get in Pharmacies:Acid is very danger to childrens hand .Simply dont use what you get around If acid flushes into eye ,might be dangerous.

Really are you still in middle age era ? many govt schools are closed in D.K due to shortage of students this is one tip of iceberg. cleaning school premises is standard but cleaning toilets is unethical. this is the reason why parents are not interested in sending kids to govt schools. and govt has enough bank balance to pay 60k to 1L to govt teachers yet don't have manpower to hire clean toilets. in one of viral videos zameer Ahmed raided a govt school hostel shockingly discovered disturbing unhygienic food given to kids suspended wardens and authorities that video is still on social media.

One can see several schools in Mangalore and distant suburbs (outside the jurisdiction of corporation) children carrying broom, dust pan, dust bin, swabbing, sweeping floors with bare hands or mopping etc. without any gloves/protection and cleaning the aisles, walls, corridors and premises (also termed as extra curricular activities in education parlance) ,,, where students are trained in such menial works and teacher(s) standing at one end giving them command and possibly browny points. Depends upon how the public sees this from their own perception.

Basically in India cleaning a toilet is categorized as a bad job, this mentality needs to be changed. People come in Mercedes to clean the toilets in Europe and also earn decent money for the job.

Some days ago another residential school inhabited by low caste students was in the news for forcing children to wash septic tank of the school as punishment 😔; and now this same type of news again; very sad state of affairs dictated by high handed and cruel school administrations; definitely this type of nonsense has been going on for long; but it's coming out in the open with change of power in the state! Perpetrators of this inhuman acts should be thrown out of the school after a thorough enquiry!!
