Mangalore: NHAI Officials Promise to Complete Bridges by December

Mangalore, Sep 12: Problems created by half-completed bridges on national highways stretch between B C Road and Suratkal will be a thing of the past from next year onwards, if the promise given by the authorities of National Highways (NHAI) Authority of India is to be believed. The promise came at a meeting of the officials with union minister, M Veerappa Moily, here on Sunday September 11.

The minister held a meeting with NHAI officials at the guest house of New Mangalore Port Trust here. During his discussions, Moily instructed the officials to complete the road works fast, and to provide employment to displaced family members subject their conforming to eligibility criteria. He told them that he will hold discussions with the Chief Minister if they encounter any problems.

Moily instructed NMPT to identify local tourism spots and take steps to develop them, towards attracting more tourists to state’s coast.

MLA, Abhay Chandra Jain, former MLA, Vijay Kumar Shetty, NMPT trustee, Tejomaya, chairman, Tamilvanan, and officials of the district administration were present at the meeting.

NHAI project director, Prashant Gavasane, told the minister that the authority has been awaiting permission from Southern Railways to undertake works on Bykampady Bridge, which has been causing traffic congestions. The minister promised to take up the issue with the railway minister, and told the officials to hasten this work.
