Beltangady: Blast at fire cracker unit – Accused supplying chemicals arrested

Beltangady, Feb 6: Venur police have arrested the person who used to supply chemicals to the firecracker manufacturing unit at Kadthyaru, near Kukkedi of Venur, where three people died due to an explosion. With this arrest, the number of individuals detained in this case has risen to four.

Anil M David (49), a resident of Gokula Divanara Palya in North Bengaluru, is the arrested person. He was apprehended in Bengaluru on February 4 and appeared in the Beltangady court on February 5. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

According to available information, David has a license to supply chemicals for manufacturing firecrackers and used to provide the same to firecracker units in Dakshina Kannada. There are accusations of supplying a larger quantity of chemicals than allowed to the manufacturing unit at Kadthyaru.

The owner of the unit, Syed Basheer (47), and the supplier of laborers, Kiran (24) from Hassan, were arrested earlier. They are also in judicial custody.
