Udupi: Adani Group implements sanitary pad incinerator project in Padubidri

Udupi, Feb 24: Adani Power Limited of Adani Group, which is operating a power plant in Kapu Taluk of Udupi district, Udupi TPP, under the aegis of Adani Foundation, a CSR wing of Adani Group, laid the foundation stone for construction and installation of sanitary pads incinerator device in the vicinity of Padubidri grama panchayat. The project costing Rs 15 lacs got kick-started by way of Bhoomi Pooja performed jointly by Kishore Alva, executive director and president of Adani Group and Shashikala. Speaking on this occasion, Kishore Alva informed that Adani Group has acquired UPCL project during the year 2015 and since then every year it is implementing various social developmental works in the field of education, health, promotion of rural sports, social forestation and community infrastructure development works in the vicinity of power plant. He also told that Adani Foundation has declared a special grant exclusively for community infrastructure development for 7 gram panchayats and the grant is being utilized for development of infrastructure that were identified by the respective gram panchayat in their annual action plant. Since Padubidri gram panchayat has sought for installation of sanitary pads incinerator device, Adani Foundation is taking-up the installation work under its CSR at a project cost of Rs 15 lac, Alva added. 

Kishore Alva informed that the installation of sanitary pads incinerator devices in public places, schools and colleges can promote better sanitation and waste management. This will also help in avoiding environmental and health hazards caused by disposing of used sanitary napkins in open areas or disposing in an unhygienic manner. This sanitary pad incinerator device has the capacity to burn 60 kgs of pads per hour. He welcomed the decision of Padubidri gram panchayat to give priority for installation of sanitary pads incinerator. Adani Group has declared Rs 3 crore grant to Padubidri GP exclusively for community infrastructure development works, out of which the development works worth Rs 1.90 crore have been already completed and handed over to the Panchayat for usage by the society, Alva added. He expressed happiness that Padubidri GP, being one of the biggest panchayat in Kaup taluk, has witnessed the establishment of various industries in its vicinity and Padubidri has now transformed into a beautiful business centre. 

Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Shetty, immediate past president of Padubidri gram panchayat, said that the Adani Group is implementing several projects under its CSR grant for the benefit of the villagers, which is a boon to the surrounding panchayats. Ravi Shetty expressed happiness that this kind of CSR project has not been implemented in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in the past either by any industry or organization, but since the day Adani Group got established here, it is delivering benefits to the society by way of various social development works through CSR programmes. 

Later Shashikala, president of Padubidri GP, spoke and thanked Adani Group for its CSR activities.  She informed that the Panchayat members, based on the demand by the villagers, had requested the Panchayat body to install a sanitary pad incinerator device in Padubidri town to protect the environmental hazardous.  She also told that last year, Adani Group renovated a dilapidated public toilet in Padubidri town under CSR grants and today it has made contribution for public use. 

Hemachandra Salian, vice president, Ravi Shetty, immediate past president, Yashodha, Naveen Shetty, Ganesh Kotian, Sunanda, Jyothi Menon, Shobha Shetty, Mubeena, Ashok Padebettu, members of Padubidri G P, Ravi Jere, AGM of Adani UPCL and Anudeep from Adani Foundation, were present on the occasion.
