Mangaluru, Apr 13: Dr. Aarthi Krishna, deputy chairman of the NRI forum of Karnataka expressed the need for Kannada NRI offices and criticised BJP government for not appointing anyone after her as deputy chairman of NRI forum of Karnataka.
Addressing news persons on Saturday, April 13 at the Congress office, Mangaluru. Dr Aarthi Krishna said, "A huge number of NRIs come from Dakshina kannada and not all NRIs are rich. Most of them stay in Gulf countries and considering all those things we wanted a separate NRI office and under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh it was initiated but later on it was merged. A number of students of Indian origin have been attacked and killed in US among other places and when such things happen their parents do not know whom to contact, also the labourers who work in Gulf should not be considered as normal NRIs. Special status should be given to them. The Congress candidate Padmaraj has helped a number of people and they also invited me for Dasara festival and I personally know him well. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding a roadshow and now to appease Billava's they are paying a floral tribute to Narayan Guru statue."
She further added that, "A huge Indian diaspora lives in the Gulf and they are afraid to come back. But, the Congress government has given all the things it had promised in terms of guarantee and if we win the Lok Sabha elections then we will fulfill more of such good works. There are no direct flight to Kuwait and many Gulf countries. If our government is voted to power we will introduce a direct flight."
On Centre helping students in Ukraine, Dr Aarthi Krishna said, "Proper information wasn't given to the public and they had no idea about with whom to connect. But if there was a office we could have easily reached out to people and solved their problems. Those who have lost jobs in Gulf were given low interest loans. A number of families could not afford to pay the air ticket fares to bring the mortal remains of labourers who had died in Gulf."
