Kundapur, Jul 12: The state government has issued an order to provide Rs50 lac in funding to the Kundapra Language Study Chair. This funding is intended to facilitate the expansion of activities associated with the language study chair. Previously, Mangalore University had written to the government requesting the necessary funds to support these activities, but the matter had remained pending at the government level.

In February, K Jayaprakash Hegde, the former MP and then chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission, wrote to the government regarding this issue. He highlighted the need to develop the Kundapra language, which is used as a mother tongue in the taluks of Kundapura, Byndoor, and Brahmavar, and partially in Hebri, Kaup, and Udupi. He had requested that chief minister Siddaramaiah immediately release Rs 1.5 crore for the constructive activities of the Kundakannada Language Study Chair. The chief minister responded positively to this request.

As a result, the government has now released the first installment of Rs 50 lac. Further funding is expected to be released in phases.
