Bengaluru, Jul 17: Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar took potshots at Union Heavy Industries Minister and JDS leader on his allegation regarding award of the garbage disposal tender to a blacklisted company at Rs 94,000 crore for 30 years by allegedly pocketing a bribe of Rs 15,000 crore and wondered how the tenders could be floated without identifying the place for disposal.
Without directly naming the JDS leader but referring merely as “a Union Minister,” Shivakumar referred to media reports on Kumaraswamy’s allegation that a blacklisted company has been awarded a tender for 30 years at a cost of Rs 94,000 crore by pocketing a bribe of Rs 15,000 crore was “simply preposterous.”
Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Shivakumar mentioned that he has seen media reports on the allegations leveled against him by an Union Minister and wanted to know the basis of the allegations .
“I have been frantically trying to identify suitable places for dumping the garbage and the entire issue is before the courts. The waste and garbage dumping at Mandur in the city outskirts had been stopped since the last 3 days. We are trying to identify alternative sites,” he said disclosing that a site near the NICE road in the city has been identified and discussions were presently underway with NICE company.
The Deputy Chief Minister explained that the waste and garbage from the city must be dumped and disposed of in two-three places outside the city to set up garbage disposal units.
He said: “I have visited other states to examine the garbage disposal in other cities. We will discuss the issue with the Chief Minister and take it up in the State Cabinet for a final decision.”
Shivakumar said the people, who had been handling the entire garbage disposal system in the city without any tenders are now “jealous” and have started levelling baseless allegations.
The Deputy Chief Minister explained that several proposals on garbage disposal, peripheral ring road, construction of flyovers and new roads besides white topping etc., would be discussed with the Chief Minister and the ministers concerned with Bengaluru. “I cannot take unilateral decisions. I need to consult everybody before taking a decision,” he added.
