Udupi, Jul 17: The Federation of Koraga Development Associations Karnataka-Kerala is set to hold a car, auto-rickshaw, bike, and scooter rally from Kapu to Brahmavar on July 18.
The rally will commence at 10:30 am from the Tahsildar office in Kapu and proceed to the Tahsildar office in Brahmavar. The primary aim of the rally is to advocate for the fulfillment of the government's promise of 100 percent employment for the youth of the community and the sanctioning of agricultural land title deeds.
Additionally, the Koraga Development Association will stage an overnight protest in front of the Udupi District Office starting on July 22. Members from the Koraga community across the twin districts are expected to participate in the protest.
Addressing the media during a press meet on July 17, Sushila Nada, president of the Koraga Development Association, said, “The government and the district administration have deceived the entire Koraga community by promising 100 percent employment and sanctioning agricultural land deeds. Well-qualified youths from our community are facing unemployment and are deprived of government jobs. We have raised our voice before the government, but we have not received any response.”
Expressing her disappointment with the district administration, Sushila stated, “When the association submitted an appeal to the DC in 2023 demanding 100 percent employment, the DC received the petition and assured a meeting within 15 days to take appropriate action. However, even after a year, no action has been taken. The Tribal Welfare Department has earmarked Rs 50 lakh for the implementation of the 100% Job Security Scheme and conducted a survey of educated youth in both districts. Despite the organization submitting several petitions to the government, the implementation of this project has been completely ignored.”
K Puthran, coordinator of the Koraga Development Association, Vinaya Adve, secretary, and Divakar, treasurer, were present at the meeting.
