Mangaluru, Jul 29: Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly U T Khader stated he is not willing to start any bad traditions in the assembly, as they may create problems for future speakers.

During a press conference on Monday July 29, Khader said, “The position of the speaker in the assembly is one of the highest in the Indian constitution. This chair should function without getting involved in any chaos or the pursuit of popularity. Speaking the truth and adhering to the rules may cause some dissatisfaction, but eventually, people will understand why certain discussions were not allowed.”

He explained, “We had four days of discussion on the Valmiki scam. On the fifth day, the MUDA scam was brought up. According to the rules, discussion on MUDA was not permitted. The speaker must operate based on the rules of the Karnataka assembly, not on the members’ analysis.”

Tharanath Gatty Kapikad, president of the Tulu Academy, felicitated U T Khader in Mangaluru for allowing MLAs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to speak in Tulu during the assembly session.

Khader was presented with a shawl, a book, and a memento. Also present were Rohit Ullal, member of the Tulu Sahitya Academy, and district information officer B A Khader Shah.
