Kundapur, Jul 31: The government and local administration are committed to providing immediate relief to flood-affected areas. The government will make sincere efforts to study and provide permanent solutions to problems like coastal erosion, said KPCC vice president and legislative council member Manjunath Bhandary.
Addressing a press conference in Kundapur on Wednesday, he mentioned that South India has become a flood-affected region and expressed condolences to families who have lost loved ones due to natural disasters.
Officials have reported that the heavy rains over the past two months in Udupi district have caused an estimated loss of around 100 crores. The state government and local administration are committed to providing legal relief, he said. He assured that efforts would be made to assess the damage to paddy crops and provide compensation.
Instructions have already been given to authorities to take precautionary measures regarding eco-sensitive zones. Bhandary urged the government to implement the Gadgil and Kasturirangan reports to protect the Western Ghats.
He criticized the opposition parties in the legislative assembly and legislative council for not behaving appropriately. He said that the BJP is dreaming of toppling the Congress government and coming to power. He added that the alliance between the jd(s) and BJP would not last long and has no future. The BJP is sowing the seeds of religious politics in the coastal region, and the Congress will fight to eradicate it completely.
Bhandary stated that people have taught the BJP a lesson in the lok sabha elections. He accused the BJP of insulting Hinduism by leaving the Ram Mandir incomplete in Ayodhya and pointed out that the party lost ground in Uttar Pradesh, where the temple is located. He claimed that the budget presented was just to maintain the alliance. He also criticized the BJP for making baseless allegations against Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, with whom they are now allied. He noted that Rahul Gandhi's voice has been silenced in the lok sabha and accused the BJP-led government of not addressing burning issues. The BJP's goal is religious-based politics, he said.
Udupi district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Kundapur block Congress president Hariprasad Shetty Kanmaki, Byndoor block president Aravind Poojary, Malyadi Shivaram Shetty, Molahalli Dinesh Hegde, Raju Poojary, Vikas Hegde, Vinod Crasta, Ichhitarth Shetty, and others were present.
