Mangaluru, Jul 31: All taluk-level departmental officials have been instructed to jointly visit all villages to listen to grievances. They must address the coordination gaps with local representatives. Speaker U T Khader made this appeal during a press conference on Wednesday, July 31 evening at the BISCC hall in Deralakatte, where taluk-level officials and local representatives gathered for an emergency meeting on natural disasters.
With the onset of the monsoon in late May, continuous natural calamities have been occurring. Emergency meetings have been held to instruct officials and local representatives on how to respond during such events. Discussions have covered the extent of damage and losses, and the government’s role in providing relief. The challenges of coordinating between gram panchayat members and officials were also addressed.
Immediate relief of Rs 6,500 should be provided by the revenue department for damaged houses. Compensation should be given within a week after the engineer’s report following the village officer’s inspection. Issues related to high-tension wires, RDP pipes, and police arrangements have been noted, and officials from various departments like forest, MESCOM, RDP, and PWD have been directed to visit all villages and resolve coordination issues. Concerns about the lack of funds in gram panchayats for immediate relief were raised, and a request has been made to the government to release emergency funds through the district commissioner. Officials and representatives must remain active for a month to address public grievances effectively.
Preparations for Independence Day celebration
Preparations are underway for the grand celebration of the second year of the taluk formation under a large flagpole. All departments will collaborate, primarily with the education department, to conduct the event. A festival committee has been formed under the leadership of the tahsildar.
