Kundapur, Aug 3: A historic protest event was held on Saturday, August 3, at the Shri Hiremahalingeshwara Temple in Manuru, Brahmavara taluk, where flood-affected farmers conducted a massive fast and released a petition demanding action.
Jayarama Shetty, president of the Kota Farmers' Voice, released the petition and spoke about the severe impact of artificial flooding on crops from Tekkatte to Karkad. He highlighted that despite numerous appeals to authorities and politicians, there has been no relief.
Shetty announced that on Wednesday, August 7, thousands of farmers will gather at the Shri Hiremahalingeshwara Temple festival grounds for a symbolic fast and satyagraha if their demands are not addressed.
Shetty called on local administration, government officials, and elected representatives to support the farmers and provide the necessary resources for agriculture. He warned that if their grievances are not resolved, more intense actions will be taken.
The event was attended by local figures that included advocate T Manjunath of Giliyaru, social activist Nagaraj Ganiga, farmer leaders Subhash Shetty, Boj Poojary Giliyaru, Handikere Raghavendra Shetty, Siddha Devadiga, Chandra Hadikere, Thimma Kanchan, Nityananda Shetty, Ramesh Mendon of Saligrama, Mahabala Poojary, Mahesh Shetty Dyavas, Girish Devadiga, Girish Nayak Kota, Bhaskar Shetty Manuru Padukare, Suresh Poojary Giliyaru, Mahesh Shetty, and others.
The programme was welcomed and concluded by Keerthish Poojary of Kota.
