Mangaluru: Suratkal overbridge poses serious risk, authorities unresponsive

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Aug 5: It appears that the instructions given by the MP and DC of DK during meetings are not being taken seriously. Motorists are risking their lives while driving on the overbridge at Suratkal on the Suratkal-Katipalla connecting road.

The public has made repeated appeals to their representatives and the administration, but these have fallen on deaf ears. The overbridge is in a severely dilapidated condition, with large pits forming.

MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has instructed railway department officials to address this issue, but these instructions have not been taken seriously.

This is a daily route for employees traveling to MRPL/BASF/MSEZ and other nearby industries, and it is one of the most frequently used roads for logistics as well (e.g., Delhivery and other courier services) and despite being reworked almost every year, the bridge still deteriorates rapidly, with large potholes forming after the first rains, resembling Olympic swimming pools. Given the road's high importance to people and businesses, it seems that no one is addressing the pathetic conditions of these roads. It’s about time that higher authorities hear our voices and work towards a permanent solution. Development without sustainability is no development at all! It’s time to ensure that road or infrastructure improvements are both effective and lasting and not just some random patch work to make us happy for two days.

"What an achievement! Since 2014, we have seen records of over bridges, bridges, and statues cracking and collapsing, and temples, airports, and parliament buildings leaking. These are some great achievements by these people.”
