Udupi, Aug 16: Silas International School marked the 77th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. The event aimed to sensitize students about India's rich legacy and the long struggle for independence.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest, prof Srinath Rao, a distinguished faculty member of Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mangaluru. Prof Rao, an accomplished academician, speaker, and social worker, inspected the parade, which included a battalion of the NCC and house-wise groups.
In his address, Prof Rao spoke eloquently about the importance of preserving the spirit of selflessness displayed by freedom fighters. He emphasized the duty of the younger generation to carry forward this legacy, stating that they are the future ambassadors of the nation, reflecting India's culture, inheritance, moral values, and character. Prof Rao urged the students to consciously contribute to the nation's growth, irrespective of their chosen professions or occupations.
The Independence Day celebrations were preceded by a cultural fiesta on August 14, where students from grades 1 to 5 participated in various patriotic activities. On August 15, the cultural event featured performances by students from grades 6 to 10. The event included a medley of patriotic songs, a skit highlighting the sacrifices of the armed forces, and a dance that evoked deep national pride.
In her speech, the principal, Jacinta D'Costa, reminded the students that Independence Day is not just a day of celebration but a time to remember the countless patriots who sacrificed their lives for the country. She urged the students to realize the price paid for freedom and to cherish it dearly.
The event concluded with the felicitation of winners from various competitions held on the occasion.
