Media Release

Udupi, Sep 15: "Students must build their lives by nurturing values along with their achievements," said Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, vicar general of the Udupi diocese. He was speaking at the scholarship distribution ceremony organised by the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh and the Mumbai John D'Silva Foundation at the Anugraha Palana Centre in Kakkunje, Ambagilu, on Sunday.

He emphasised that while students achieve success through hard work and their parents' sacrifices, they must not neglect values at any stage of life and should strive to build an ideal society. He urged students to stay focused on their goals and work towards the betterment of society as they move forward on the path of success.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) of Uttara Kannada, Valentine D'Souza, delivered a keynote address, stating that talent is inherent in everyone. He remarked that progress is possible only when one identifies their talent and continues to excel in that field. "Progress follows talent. One must take advantage of opportunities and move forward in life," he added.

During the event, the Mumbai John D'Silva Foundation recognised students who scored the highest marks in SSLC and PUC exams last year with merit awards.

Eldrin Vas of Udyavara, who earned a PhD in engineering, Nicola Dias of Byndoor, who excelled in the CA exams, and Russel Martis of Shankarpura were honoured on this occasion.

Dr Gerald Pinto, the programme coordinator, also conducted a workshop for students on competitive exams such as UPSC and KPSC.

The event was presided over by Santosh Cornelio, president of the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh. Other dignitaries included John D'Silva, president of the foundation, Gladys D'Silva, former Catholic Sabha president Mary D'Souza, treasurer Gerald Rodrigues, and former presidents Valerian Fernandes and Alphons D'Costa.

Santosh Cornelio welcomed the gathering, Olivia D'Mello proposed the vote of thanks, and Lloyd Noronha compared the programme.
