Mangaluru: Encroached buildings demolished in Deralakatte amid protests

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Nov 23: Public Works Department (PWD) officials, under police protection, carried out a demolition drive on Friday, targeting structures built on encroached government land in Deralakatte. The operation extended from Byaris Commercial Complex to Kuttaru Pandit House.

The demolition sparked heated arguments between PWD officials and traders, who accused the department of proceeding without issuing prior notices. Allegations also surfaced claiming that the demolition at certain spots was influenced by local interests rather than official directives.

The operation was led by assistant executive engineer Nagaraj R B and assistant engineer Das Prakash. However, objections arose from some residents and traders, who questioned why certain signboards and shops near the main road were spared during the operation.
