Gandhiji’s ideals still relevant, nobody can kill his values, says CM

Bengaluru, Jan 30: Mahatma Gandhis’ ideals and thoughts are still relevant and the Father of the Nation Gandhiji’s values can never be killed or destroyed by anybody, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while paying homage to the Gandhis’ statue in front of Vidhana Soudha, along with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Thursday.

“Fundamentalist Nathuram Godse may have killed Gandhiji but his values and ideology can never be killed or destroyed by anybody, “Siddaramaiah said asserting that Gandhi’s values and ideology were still relevant not only in India but in the world.

Speaking to media persons after offering floral tribute to the father of the nation, he said Gandhi’s struggles and profound belief in truth, non-violence and satyagraha were mainly responsible in the country’s freedom struggle.

The Chief Minister said Gandhiji was always an inspiration and guiding force for the Congress party and had been the party’s president only once and presided over the AICC session at Belagavi on December 25, 26 and 27, 1924 and noted that the party conducted the centennial celebrations in Belagavi, in which AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, Congress Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders participated.

Mahatma Gandhi was instrumental in India getting freedom and had suggested his concept of India after Independence, including Grama Swaraj and development of villages if the country was to march ahead and progress. He asked the people and Congress leaders to strive for building a strong and just society and the development of the country.

Air Ambulance to bring bodies of 4 from Prayagraj

Expressing his grief at the loss of lives due to stampede during the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, Siddaramaiah said the State Government has made arrangements to send air ambulance to bring home the bodies of the four pilgrims from Belagavi, who lost their lives in the stampede.

He indicated that the government has no information about 8 more persons from the State missing in the Maha Kumbh. The government would make every attempts to help the people from Prayagraj, he said adding that the Belagavi in charge minister will make announcement on the payment of compensation to the bereaved families of the deceased persons.
