Udupi, Mar 11: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidyakumari has directed officials to ensure the full implementation of government health schemes and programs to provide quality healthcare services to the public. She emphasized and instructed to form a high level committee to have a check on infant mortality happening in the district while presiding over a coordination committee meeting of the Health Department at the Deputy Commissioner's office hall in Rajatadri, Manipal.
During the summer season, fairs, chariot festivals, village festivals and other religious programs are held. During such times, there is a possibility of outbreak or spread of infectious diseases including enteritis, cholera, typhoid fever, jaundice and other diseases due to consumption of contaminated water and contaminated food. People should be informed about these precautions and cleanliness should be given priority, she said.


She said that it is mandatory for clinics and health institutions licensed under the KPME in the district to display the medical cost list. If they do not display it, a notice will be given for the first time, and if it is repeated again, the license of such health institution or clinic should be canceled. He said that clinics and nursing homes should be visited frequently and checked whether the management is being done as per the rules of the KPME Act.
So far, 73 infant deaths have occurred in the district. Medical service facilities in the district are good. However, infant deaths are still occurring. She instructed that a committee should be formed to find out the reasons for this, high-level report should be obtained and steps should be taken to reduce the number of infant deaths.
The work of giving vaccines to children should be done in a good manner. It should be ensured that no child is deprived of vaccination. She said that Hepatitis B vaccines should be given within 24 hours of the child's birth. However, it is being heard that some private hospitals are not giving them. Action should be taken in this regard.
Blood tests of 47,590 people have been conducted in the district for tuberculosis screening, out of which 1414 cases have been found. The necessary treatment is being provided, she said that the local gram panchayats should provide subsidy to provide the necessary nutritious food to the tuberculosis patients. The facilities of Nikshay Poshan Yojana should be provided. She said that all necessary steps should be taken to eradicate tuberculosis in the district.
In the current year, there were 3717 dog bites and 70 snake bites in the district, of which 3 people died due to snake bites. She said that the sterilization of dogs should be carried out on priority to reduce their number, he said, and the public should ensure that if dogs with rabies die and other livestock that die due to mad dog bites are buried deep. He said that the authorities should take appropriate action in this regard.
Generally, cases of monkeypox are seen during high temperature weather. People living in the forest should be made aware about the spread of this disease. Dr Vidyakumari instructed the PDO, Health Department staff and Forest Department staff to hold coordination committee meetings at the Gram Panchayat level and take action to prevent the spread of the disease.
No cases of bird flu have been found in the district so far. But cases have already been found in some districts. He said that people should be made aware of the precautionary measures to control bird flu, and officials of the Animal Husbandry Department should visit poultry farms and conduct inspections regularly. Action should also be taken regarding swine flu.
It is prohibited to sell tobacco products within 100 meters of schools and colleges. The licenses of 11 shops in Manipal that violated these have been canceled. If these cases are found during the COTPA raid, the licenses of such shops should be canceled without fail. Cases of violation of the COTPA Act are being seen more in some areas on the border of Byndoor-Bhatkal taluk. He said that action should be taken to control these.
In our district, the “Cool Lip” mouth freshener product is actually a tobacco product, and sellers should not advertise and sell these to children. Appropriate action should be taken in this regard, she said.
The Fetal Sex Detection Prohibition Act should be implemented properly. She said that the permission of scanning centers that have repeatedly violated the rules should be canceled, and those who provide information about illegal fetal sex detection will be rewarded up to Rs. 1 lakh.
More people come for treatment from outside the district. Also, people from neighboring districts demand blood. Accordingly, it should be ensured that there is a stock of blood in the district according to the emergency blood requirement, he said, and permission should be obtained to have the necessary equipment and vehicle system for the blood donation center and get them.
Rainwater stands everywhere and becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, and there is a possibility of malaria and dengue cases escalating. He said that awareness should be created through ASHA workers about the steps that can be taken to control these immediately, adding that more and more young people are becoming victims of suicide cases in the district. He instructed that the exact cause of death should be ascertained and steps should be taken to control these.
