Panaji, Apr 9: In a bid to clear long-unused assets and promote transparency, the Goa Cabinet on Wednesday decided to auction all government vehicles currently lying off the roads. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced the decision following a cabinet meeting, revealing that over 200 idle vehicles will go under the hammer.
Speaking to media persons, CM Sawant said the auction process will be carried out through public melas to be held in Margao (South Goa) and Mapusa (North Goa).

“There are more than 200 vehicles which are currently off-the-road due to various conditions. Of these, 34 are less than 15 years old and can be reused by the public,” he said. Vehicles older than 15 years, however, can only be purchased for scrapping purposes and will not be permitted back on the road.
The Chief Minister also urged citizens to inform authorities about any government vehicles seen abandoned by the roadside, adding that such vehicles would also be included in the upcoming auctions.
The move is seen as part of the state’s larger efforts to improve resource management and declutter unused public assets.
