Mangalore, Jan 20: “Even after six months, those behind the brutal murder of mother and daughter in Panjimogaru have not been traced. This indicates that the local police are unable to map out the culprits. Thus, we demand that the case be handed over to the CBI and failure to do the same will lead to a display of black flags during the chief minister’s visit to the district,” said DYFI district president Munir Katipalla.

He spoke after participating in a protest held urging the government to hand over the investigation to the CBI in front of the district-in-charge minister’s office located at the MCC building on Friday January 20. The protest was organized by Panjimogaru unit of the DYFI.

“The black flag protest is being held in front of the district in-charge minister’s office to draw the attention of the government. Though the duo was murdered in broad daylight, the killers have not yet been apprehended. Though the incident occurred in the district in-charge minister’s constituency, he did not even show the courtesy to console the family by visiting their house,” added Katipalla.

District secretary Dayanand Shetty, addressing the protestors, said that well-planned efforts are being made by the police to close the case. This is the fourth protest urging the arrest of the culprits. He said that the government will be targeted if the case is not handed over to CBI.

DYFI city unit president Imtiyaz B K, speaking on the occasion, said that due to inactivity of the police, the family members are being blamed and thus, there is need for a CBI investigation. Earlier, a procession was taken out from Lady Hill to Lalbagh.
