Mangalore: Cancerous Tumour in Liver Successfully Operated at Father Muller Hospital

Mangalore, Jan 28: A team of doctors comprising surgeons Dr Erel Diaz, Dr Praveen Kumar, Dr Nita, Dr Roy and anesthesiologist Dr Harshavardhan successfully operated on a patient with liver cancer.

A 55-year-old came to the Father Muller Hospital with a large liver cancer arising from segment 4 of the liver. After investigations the patient underwent a left hepatectomy where segments 2, 3 and 4 of the liver containing the tumour were resected. The tumour was precariously placed close to the major blood vessels supplying the liver.

With proper planning, the use of intraoperative ultrasound and selective inflow and outflow control the tumour was carefully dissected off the major vessels. Post operatively the patient’s recovery was uneventful and the patient will be discharged in a few days.
