Kaup, July 17: The Niraamaya Institute of health sciences, in association with the Youth Red Cross, Student Nurses Association, and Lions Club Katpadi, organised a successful Beach Cleaning Day at Mattu Beach with the goal of raising awareness about marine pollution and promoting eco-friendly practices within the community.
A total of 53 enthusiastic students from the institute participated in the large-scale cleaning initiative, showcasing their dedication to environmental sustainability and social responsibility. The volunteers, equipped with gloves and rubbish bags, began work early in the morning, clearing plastic waste, bottles, wrappers, fishing nets, and other non-biodegradable materials littering the shoreline.










"This is more than just a cleanup — it’s about taking responsibility for the planet and setting an example for others," said one of the student participants, reflecting the shared spirit of the day.
Distinguished guests from the Lions Club, including president Ln Prakash Poojary, zone chairperson Ln Roshan D'Silva, and member Ln Jagadish Kamath, graced the occasion. Principals Shivashankar B Pai and Roshani Rodrigues of the Niraamaya Institute, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, were also present, lending their support to the student-led effort.
The event proceedings were anchored by Vinisha, who served as the master of ceremony. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by student Likith, acknowledging everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
This impactful initiative not only helped restore the natural beauty of Mattu Beach but also served as a strong reminder of the power of collective action in preserving the environment.
