Justice Vibhu Bakhru sworn in as chief justice of Karnataka high court

Bengaluru, Jul 19: Justice Vibhu Bakhru was sworn in as the chief justice of the Karnataka High Court in a formal ceremony held at the glass house of Raj Bhavan on Saturday.

Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot administered the oath of office to the newly appointed chief justice. Justice Bakhru, 59, previously served as a judge of the Delhi High Court. His elevation to the top post in Karnataka followed the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium to the Central Government.

The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, deputy CM D K Shivakumar, legislative council speaker Basavaraj Horatti, acting chief justice V Kameshwara Rao, law minister H K Patil, urban development minister B S Suresh (Bairati), political secretary to the CM Naseer Ahmed, legal advisor A S Ponnanna, council member Nagaraj Yadav, and chairman of the State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority H M Revanna.

Chief secretary Dr Shalini Rajnish, CM’s media advisor K V Prabhakar, CM’s secretary B B Kaveri, senior judges of the High Court, lawyers, and top officials were also present for the swearing-in ceremony.
