Mangaluru, Sep 7: Learning stepped out of the classroom and came alive as the students of grade 9 from St Theresa’s School, Bendur, set out on an exciting and enriching educational tour to Chennai and Pondicherry. Accompanied by the principal, Sr Lourdes, and five dedicated teachers, the young learners experienced a journey that beautifully blended history, culture, nature, and recreation.

The adventure began at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai, where students were delighted to witness a wide variety of animals and birds in their natural surroundings. It was more than just sightseeing. It was textbook knowledge transformed into real-life observation of biodiversity.

On the way to Pondicherry, the group paused at the Sacred Heart Basilica, a magnificent Gothic-style church dating back to the French colonial era. The colorful stained-glass windows and the serene ambience left the visitors spiritually enriched.

The journey’s highlight was the Pichavaram Mangroves, among the largest in India. A boat ride through narrow waterways flanked by dense mangrove roots turned into a thrilling eco-adventure, while also teaching students the importance of conserving fragile ecosystems.

In Pondicherry, the group explored Auroville, the international township symbolizing unity and sustainable living. The golden Matrimandir, shining in the sunlight, inspired the students with its aura of peace and harmony. Time spent at the scenic Rock Beach and a visit to the Pondicherry Museum added layers of cultural and historical insight, especially with its rich display of French heritage artifacts.

The exploration did not stop there. The next destination was the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram, where the ancient Shore Temple and rock-cut monuments left students awe-struck at the artistry and engineering brilliance of India’s past. Before wrapping up their cultural trail, a lively stop at Phoenix Market City in Chennai allowed the students to unwind with shopping and relaxation.

To top it all, the final day was reserved for pure joy at MGM Dizee Amusement Park. The exhilarating rides and entertainment brought out laughter, cheers, and unforgettable moments of fun.

The educational tour was more than a trip it was a journey of discovery, bonding, and inspiration. It broadened the horizons of the students, deepened their appreciation of history, nature, and culture, and created cherished memories with friends and teachers.

For the students of grade 9, this Chennai–Pondicherry tour will be remembered not just as a getaway, but as a life experience where learning and joy walked hand in hand.
