Mysuru: Forest dept books young woman for trespassing on Dasara elephant enclosure

Mysuru, Sep 20: The forest department has registered a case against a young woman who, without permission, entered the Dasara Jumbo Elephant enclosure Thursday night and dangerously filmed herself with the elephants, authorities said.

Officials stated that the elephants participating in the Dasara festivities are kept in designated enclosures within the palace premises, and prior permission is mandatory to enter these areas. Ignoring these rules, the woman reportedly approached an elephant, patted it, and captured the act on video, which she later shared on social media. The video drew criticism from several viewers regarding the safety protocols maintained by the forest department.

“The woman will be traced and penalised. Earlier, we have filed three cases and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 against people who entered the elephant enclosure without permission and clicked photos or videos,” said I B Prabhugowda, deputy conservator of forests, wildlife division.

The forest department warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating safety and wildlife rules, especially during events like the Dasara festivities where elephants are involved.

Forest department official must be booked for the security lapses . When the important event like Dasara festival arrangements underway utmost safeguards must be put in place . The post says some people were already fined for trespassing why the this laxity was seen.Thousands visit Mysuru during these 10 days the entire area should have been sanitised there shall be zero tolerance. I have seen even on the Vijaya Dashami day the crowd followed the Elephant which carried the Golden Howda at the North gate of the Mysuru Palace all hell broke outWhen I asked the Security police why such thing is happening he expressed his inability n his responce was shocking. Then In-charge minister Ms.Shobha Karandaje immediately rushed n had to instruct the police to control the crowd.

Getting away with a meager fine is fine for these people considering the hype and publicity they get. Even on the vijayadashami day people are seen dangerously close to the elephants. Will the forest department penalize all of them? Much stricter action is needed rather than imposing penalties.

It is a sad state of affairs, anything and any service can be bought . All involved in this should be severely punished. Rs1000 fine is peanuts.
