Srinivas University, organises a hand hygiene awareness programme for Anganwadi children

Mangaluru, Sep 15: In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Department of Forensic Science, Institute of Allied Health Sciences (IAHS), Srinivas University, organised a hand hygiene awareness programme for Anganwadi children on September 15. The initiative aimed to instill essential hygiene habits among young children while promoting health and education.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof Pavana Krishnamoorthy, dean of IAHS, and featured Dr Vijaya Doddagoudar as the speaker. Dr Swathi D, course coordinator of the Department of Forensic Science, and Dr Chaithra, assistant professor of MLT, were also present.

Focusing on SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), the session highlighted preventive healthcare through proper hand hygiene practices. Dr Vijaya Doddagoudar engaged the children with an interactive talk on essential habits such as washing hands before meals, after using the restroom, and after playing, while cautioning against harmful habits like nail biting.

Students from the Department of Forensic Science conducted games and activities to reinforce the message in a fun and memorable way. The programme concluded with the distribution of goodies and chocolates, motivating children to adopt hygienic practices in their daily routines.

The initiative successfully raised awareness on personal hygiene, preventive health, and community engagement, demonstrating how education can play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development goals for health and well-being.
