Mangaluru, Sept 23: Amid growing demands for justice in a series of suspicious deaths and alleged murders linked to Dharmasthala, the Dharmasthala Daurjanya Vedike has announced a major protest convention titled ‘Nyaya Samavesha’, to be held at Freedom Park, Bengaluru, on September 25.
The convention seeks to renew public pressure for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into several high-profile cases, including the alleged murders of Sowjanya, Vedavalli, Padmalatha, and a mahout—all reported from the Dharmasthala area over the past years.

Addressing the media, activist Jayanth T said the initiative is being organised to ensure transparency, justice, and a thorough investigation into cases that, according to him, have been “deliberately mishandled or misrepresented.”
“We will also demand that all the unnatural deaths reported in Dharmasthala and Belthangady police stations over a period of time should be handed over to the SIT to probe,” Jayanth stated in a video message. “On many occasions, murders were projected as unnatural deaths in the past in Dharmasthala police station. Hence, all unnatural deaths reported should be probed by the SIT.”
He further raised concerns about how certain deaths, often labelled as suicides, may involve deeper criminal or financial networks, and called for wider scrutiny by national-level agencies.
“Cases related to deaths by suicide should also be probed by the Enforcement Directorate or other agencies,” he said.
Jayanth also highlighted growing allegations of land encroachments in the area, stating that the issue has been repeatedly brushed aside and now requires a high-level inquiry to uncover the full truth.
Turning to the ongoing mass burial case, which is currently under SIT investigation, Jayanth alleged that political interference is derailing the process.
“The SIT is presently investigating the mass burial case. However, there is political interference now, which should be stopped. The SIT should be given a free hand to investigate,” he said.
He concluded with a strong appeal to the public, particularly those supporting the long-standing movement for justice in the Sowjanya case, to join the ‘Nyaya Samavesha’ and amplify their collective call for truth and accountability.
“We seek the support of all those who echo the call for justice in the Sowjanya case. The ‘Nyaya Samavesha’ is a platform for united voices demanding answers and action,” he added.
