Bantwal, Oct 3: A case has been registered at Bantwal rural police station against former Bantwal taluk panchayat member for allegedly misusing the taluk panchayat letterhead and spreading false information regarding a socio-educational survey.

The accused has been identified as former member Prabhakar Prabhu. Taluk panchayat executive officer Sachinkumar lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.

It is alleged that although his term had ended, the former member continued to use the taluk panchayat letterhead to issue a notice urging gram panchayat staff not to exert pressure in connection with the socio-educational survey.

The complaint further stated that while the high court and the member-secretary of the backward classes commission had already directed that no pressure should be exerted on the public for the survey, the former member misled higher officials by submitting a false representation that gram panchayat staff were being pressured and that the progress of the survey in the district was being hindered.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and are investigating.
