Mangaluru, Oct 8: The state president of Vishwakarma Samaj, Vikram Acharya, addressed a press conference in Mangaluru regarding the ongoing Puttur rape-cheating case, reaffirming the community’s solidarity with the victim and pledging to fight for her justice.
Speaking about the incident that took place in Puttur, Acharya said it was a grave injustice against a young woman from their community. “Our society always stands against injustice done to our women. Several voices have tried to politicise this issue, but we remain united in seeking justice for the victim,” he said.
He added that all leaders of the Vishwakarma community oppose the injustice and are committed to fighting for the woman’s cause. However, since the case is now in court, the community has refrained from making public statements. Acharya reaffirmed, “We will continue to stand against the injustice done to the young woman.”
He also stated that legislators from all political parties will meet the concerned minister to discuss the exploitation faced by their community.
Regarding the case details, Acharya said that the DNA report has confirmed the accused as the father. Following the report, members of their community have spoken to the accused’s family. However, the family insists that no marriage will take place, without stating the reason. “We do not know why the accused is refusing marriage. We will try to convince his family with the support of legislators,” Acharya said.
He further warned that the community is prepared for large-scale protests if the family continues to deny marriage. “If they refuse, we will unite and take collective action against them,” he asserted.
