Mangaluru, Oct 17: KMC Hospital Mangaluru in association with Mangaluru City Police marks "World Trauma Day 2025" with new initiative. KMC Hospital Mangaluru organised a special road safety initiative aimed at supporting the city’s traffic management and promoting public awareness on trauma prevention.

The handover was led by Saghir Siddiqui, regional chief operating officer, and Dr Jeedhu Radhakrishnan, cluster head – emergency medicine, in the presence of hospital representatives and traffic department officials.

World Trauma Day serves as a reminder of the increasing number of road traffic accidents and the urgent need for preventive measures to reduce injuries and fatalities. With increase in traffic the importance of speed breakers and barricade are required to ensure that the vehicle users follow the recommended speed limit around city limits and sensitive areas like schools, colleges, hospitals, junctions with high volume of public crossing the road etc and in the prominent places ensuring road safety. By providing these barricades, KMC Hospital Mangalore aims to strengthen road safety infrastructure and facilitate smoother traffic regulation, especially in accident-prone zones.

Shivakumar Mugalli, inspector traffic North Division stated that “Lot of road traffic accidents can be prevented if people follow traffic rules and speed limits. The present broad highways have made it possible for people to travel at ease, while this is good it is advisable that people do not rush to overspeed to compensate on time. We have placed multiple barricades on highway and have reduced many accidents. These barricades contributed by KMC Hospital on World Trauma Day is a significant step towards reinforcing road safety in our city. These barricades are vital assets that will aid in better traffic management and the crucial prevention of accidents. We applaud this partnership, which underscores our shared commitment to saving precious lives on our roads."

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jeedhu Radhakrishnan said, “Trauma prevention is as important as trauma care. We can prevent road accidents by not being distracted by mobile phones and be fully present in our driving. India has been ranked number one in Selfies deaths; this is a preventable accident. Trauma awareness initiatives like these not only help reduce accidents but also build awareness among the public, ensuring safer roads for everyone. We have set up emergency centres at Puttur, Chervathur, Kakkinje, Belthangady & Kundapura to provide timely care in the golden hour for emergencies arising in the surrounding region.”

Saghir Siddiqui added, “KMC Hospital believes in extending its commitment to community welfare beyond healthcare. Collaborating with civic authorities to improve road safety is one way we can make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. We thank Mangaluru City Police for keeping us safe.”

Through this initiative, KMC Hospital Mangaluru continues to uphold its commitment to community health and safety, aligning with its broader mission of delivering not just quality medical care but also proactive health and safety interventions that make a lasting impact on society.
