Bengaluru, Oct 21: In a move expected to boost tourism and business in Ballari and Vijayanagara districts, regional airline Star Air has announced plans to start a new flight connecting Bengaluru with the historic town of Hampi.
The flights will operate via Vidyanaagar (JSW) Airport, located close to the heritage town. The announcement comes as a relief to travelers and locals, as flight operations at JSW Airport had been suspended for the past month.

The new service is anticipated to significantly improve access to Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of South India’s most popular tourist destinations, while also benefiting Ballari. Sources confirmed that the flight service is set to commence on November 1.
The announcement by Star Air has been welcomed by both tourists and local businesses. Previously, Alliance Air operated daily flights between Hampi and Bengaluru, but services were halted due to technical reasons.
According to Star Air, the daily flight will depart Bengaluru in the morning, reach Vidyanaagar, and return shortly thereafter. The schedule includes departure from Bengaluru at 7:50 AM, arrival at Vidyanaagar at 8:40 AM, departure from Vidyanaagar at 9:10 AM, and return to Bengaluru by 10:00 AM. The service will run daily.
Virupakshi V. Hampi, Secretary of the State Tourist Guides Association and Hampi Guides, highlighted the convenience: “Hampi is about 35 km from JSW Vidyanaagar Airport. Currently, many tourists use Hubballi Airport, which is about 150 km away. I am grateful to Star Air for this much-needed service,” he said.
The new flight is expected to enhance tourist footfall in Hampi and Ballari, providing easier access for travelers and boosting local tourism and related businesses.
