Nitte Institute of nursing sciences hosts state-level workshop and executive development programme

Mangaluru, Nov 19: The department of child health nursing at Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences (NUINS), Nitte (Deemed to be University), organised a one-day Executive Development Programme (EDP) and state-level workshop titled “From search to stats: Mastering literature review skills with jamovi – Hands-on” on Tuesday, November 17, at the NUINS Learning Centre, Paneer Campus, Mangaluru. The workshop, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 76 delegates, including UG and PG nursing students, PhD scholars and faculty members from various institutions.

The programme began with registration and a pre-test, followed by a formal inaugural ceremony with the lighting of the lamp. Prof Dr Fatima D'Silva, principal, NUINS, addressed the gathering and commended the department of child health nursing for organising a workshop focused on essential research skills for modern healthcare education.

Prof Dr Sujatha R, organising chairperson, welcomed the audience, and Dr Sharlet D’Souza, organising secretary, introduced the first speaker. The sessions featured Prof Remya U R, former professor & HOD, Sree Gokulam Nursing College, Kerala, who delivered an in-depth session on database search strategies and referencing styles;

Dr Neevan D’Souza, professor of biostatistics, who explained the fundamentals and applications of jamovi in health science research; and Yashashwini, assistant professor & biostatistician, who conducted a hands-on practical session guiding participants through data entry, data management, and statistical analysis using jamovi.

The workshop highlighted the importance of research competence in nursing and contributed to SDG 4 (quality education) and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) by strengthening research literacy and enhancing participants’ data analysis skills. Positive feedback reflected the relevance and practicality of the sessions, and the event concluded with a valedictory ceremony and a vote of thanks by Supreetha, lecturer, while Dipthi Punja, 1st-year MSc Nursing student, effectively compered the programme.
