Mangaluru/Udupi, Nov 23: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Dakshina Kannada on November 22 night, with intense lightning strikes leaving Mangaluru city on alert. The downpour also affected flight operations at the Bajpe airport.

Between 10 pm and 11 pm, Mangaluru witnessed a spell of heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Flights arriving from Mumbai and Bengaluru were diverted back to Bengaluru, while a Dubai-bound flight was diverted to Kannur, where it landed safely.

Most areas across Dakshina Kannada received good rainfall. Heavy rain with thunder and lightning was reported from Vittal, Puttur, Bantwal, Beltangady, Sullia, Kadaba and Mulki. In Puttur taluk, Savanuru and Peruvaje received steady rain, while Bettampady, Panaje and Kalmadka experienced rain with intense lightning.

The Uppinangady region saw about half an hour of rain, leaving arecanut put out to dry in courtyards soaked. In Udupi district too, rain began after 11 pm, with Padubidri, Uchchila, Kapu and Udupi town receiving moderate showers. Kasargod also reported moderate rainfall.
