Mangaluru, Nov 26: The second accused has been arrested in connection with the sword attack reported in Edapadavu on November 24 evening, while a search is on for the remaining two.
Akhilesh, 21, who had sustained injuries after a four-member group allegedly attacked him near the Hanuman Temple on the national highway stretch at Edapadavu, was treated at a private hospital in Moodbidri and discharged on November 25. Local youths had caught Mohammed Sinan at the spot on Monday evening and handed him over to Bajpe police. On Tuesday, police arrested another suspect, Irshad from Kere Kodi in Venoor.

Police sources said that four persons were involved in the assault and the identities of the remaining two have been traced. A hunt is on for their arrest as they are absconding.
It is learnt that the group had allegedly planned an assault on a specific person in Moodbidri. When they failed to target him, all four reportedly consumed alcohol there. While travelling towards Edapadavu via Mijaru on a two-wheeler, the group allegedly brandished the sword on the way. Akhilesh, who was riding another two-wheeler towards Edapadavu, reportedly tried to record the act, following which he was attacked.
Police sources from Moodbidri said that the same group had earlier issued life threats to Prashanth alias Panttu of Venoor, and a case in this regard has been registered at Moodbidri police station.
