Karavali Utsava to begin on Dec 20; musical night to feature Kannada, Bollywood stars

Mangaluru, Dec 4: The Dakshina Kannada district administration, zilla panchayat, and various local associations and organisations will jointly host the Karavali Utsava, a cultural, sports, and entertainment festival, from December 20 to January 4.

Addressing a press meet, deputy commissioner Darshan H V said the festival will be inaugurated on December 20 at the Karavali utsava Grounds with a grand cultural programme in the presence of elected representatives.

Throughout the utsava period, various stalls, exhibitions, and an amusement park will be open to the public at the Karavali utsava Grounds. Cultural and folk performances representing coastal Karnataka have been scheduled for every Saturday and Sunday.

Musical night

A “musical night” featuring artistes from Sandalwood and Bollywood will be held on January 3 and 4 at Panambur, Tannirbavi, and Sasihithlu beaches. As part of the extended celebrations, special programmes have also been planned for January and February.

Beach festival

The DC informed that heli rides will be held every Saturday and Sunday from December 20 at the Sahyadri College Grounds. A chitra shilpa nrutya mela – kala parba will be held along the Kadri Park Road from January 9 to 11. A fruit and flower show will take place at Kadri Park on January 26. A triathlon will be held at Tannirbavi Beach from January 9 to 11, followed by an international kite festival on January 17 and 18. Beach festivals will be organised at various major beaches from January 23 to 25.

The district administration has planned to organise the Karavali utsava at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Revenue of Rs 30 lakh is expected through stall allotment tenders. A proposal seeking Rs 1.5 crore from the government has been submitted, and another Rs 1 crore will be mobilised through advertisements and sponsorships from local companies.

Zilla panchayat CEO Karbhari Vinayak Narwade, additional deputy commissioner K Raju, DCP Mithun H N, and tourism department deputy director Dileep were present at the press meet.

Wine, cheese and cake fest

A wine, cheese and cake fest will be held at Panambur Beach during the last week of December. A food street will be organised along Kadri Park Road or at one of the beaches on January 30 and 31. A book fest will be arranged at the city central library or an open space in the last week of January. A film festival will be held at Big Cinemas in the last week of February, and a dog show will be organised at Kadri Park on February 14.
