Udupi, Jan 3: Reaffirming the centuries-old tradition of Hindu–Muslim harmony associated with the Sri Krishna Math, the Udupi District Muslim Harmony Paryaya Committee has announced a series of programmes during the upcoming Shiroor Math Paryaya celebrations.

Addressing a press conference here, committee president Haji K Aboobacker Parkala said that the initiatives are aimed at strengthening communal harmony and keeping alive the legacy of unity that has existed at the Sri Krishna Math since ancient times. The committee has been actively organising similar programmes during Paryaya and other occasions for several years.

As part of the celebrations, the committee will distribute cold beverages to thousands of devotees participating in the Pura Pravesha ceremony scheduled to be held on January 9. Further, a Horekanike offering programme has been organised on January 13, during which a ceremonial procession will be taken out from Jodukatte.

Haji Aboobacker Parkala said the Horekanike procession will also feature Daff drumming, a traditional Muslim cultural art form, symbolising communal harmony. In addition, on the main Paryaya day on January 18, the committee will distribute 10,000 bottles of drinking water to devotees.

Members of the Udupi District Muslim Souharda Paryaya Committee, including Hamzath, Rafiq Doddangudde, Peeru Saheb, Riyaz Palli, Charles Ambler, Arif, Ansar Ahmed, and publicity committee member Rahim Ujire, were present at the press conference.
