Dharmasthala burial case: Court directs SIT to expedite probe, submit final report

Beltangady, Jan 4: The Beltangady court has directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to fast-track the investigation and submit a comprehensive final report in the case pertaining to allegations of burial of hundreds of bodies in Dharmasthala village.

The case relates to allegations that bodies of victims of alleged criminal activities in Dharmasthala were buried to destroy evidence. The SIT had earlier submitted a preliminary investigation report before the Beltangady JMFC court on November 20.

During the hearing, additional judge of the Beltangady court Vijayanendra H T instructed the SIT to complete the probe at the earliest and submit the final report without delay. The matter has been adjourned to January 23 for further hearing.

Senior SIT officials, including SP C A Simon, deputy superintendent of police Lokesh and other officers, were present before the court during the proceedings.

According to the SIT investigation report, the manner in which six persons allegedly misled the court has been explained step by step, detailing the alleged attempts to derail the judicial process.

Those named in the case are Chinnayya, Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, Girish Mattannavar, Vittal Gowda, Jayanth T and Sujatha Bhat.

The court stressed the need for a swift and thorough investigation, considering the seriousness of the allegations and the public interest involved in the case.
