Mumbai, Jan 25: A routine local train commute turned fatal for a college professor after a petty argument with a co-passenger escalated into a deadly knife attack at Malad railway station here, police said on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Alok Singh, was travelling in a local train when he got into an argument with another passenger over a trivial issue. The dispute continued for some time before the accused suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Singh multiple times in the stomach, leaving him with no chance to react, eyewitnesses told police.

The incident came to light after authorities received information about a man lying injured with knife wounds on platform number one of Malad station. According to police, the attacker fled immediately after the train halted at the station.

Despite being critically injured, Singh managed to get down from the train but collapsed on the platform while trying to stop the bleeding. He was rushed for medical help but succumbed to his injuries.

Singh was a professor at NM College in Vile Parle, news agency PTI reported.

Police said the accused is yet to be identified. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and investigators are scanning CCTV footage from the railway station to trace and arrest the attacker.
