Haryana, Jan 31: When the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the final results of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 in April, several inspiring stories emerged from across the country. Among them, Shivani Panchal’s journey stood out as a powerful tale of determination, resilience, and self-belief.
Hailing from Majri village in Haryana, Shivani’s life took a difficult turn at a very young age when she lost her father, Dilbag Singh, in a road accident at just four years old. With the sudden loss of the family’s breadwinner, her mother Savita, an Anganwadi worker, shouldered the responsibility of raising the family and nurturing her daughter’s dreams.

Shivani began her education at Bal Vikas Public School in her village, displaying academic promise early on. She later secured admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, where she completed her BTech degree. After graduation, she stepped into the corporate world, following a path many would consider secure and settled.
However, Shivani soon realised that her aspirations lay elsewhere. Driven by a desire to serve the public and inspired to attempt the country’s toughest examinations, she made the bold decision to prepare for the civil services. Without enrolling in any coaching institute, she relied on self-study, discipline, and perseverance.
Her efforts bore fruit in 2024 when she cleared the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) examination. In the same year, Shivani achieved an even bigger milestone by cracking the UPSC Civil Services Examination on her very first attempt, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 53.
From a small village in Haryana to the national list of top civil services aspirants, Shivani Panchal’s success story is a reminder that adversity can be transformed into strength. Her journey reinforces a timeless truth — with unwavering determination and hard work, even the most daunting dreams can be realised.
