Bahrain/Mangaluru, Feb 6: Anand Lobo, a well-known and respected figure in Bahrain’s Indian expatriate community and a prominent Mangalurean leader, passed away in Mangaluru on February 5. His demise has cast a pall of gloom among community organisations and social circles.

Lobo, a former office-bearer of the Indian Club, Bahrain, was widely known for his active involvement in expatriate community life. He served as the president of the Indian Club, Bahrain, during the 2013–2015 term and was notably the first Mangalorean to hold the prestigious post. During his tenure, he played a key role in strengthening the club’s activities and preparations towards its centenary celebrations.

He also served as the president of the Karnataka Social Club, Bahrain, under whose leadership the organisation actively promoted cultural, social, and community-oriented initiatives. He was instrumental in organising major events, meetings with community and religious leaders, and programmes aimed at fostering unity among Kannadigas and the wider Indian diaspora in Bahrain.

Lobo was closely associated with several cultural and sporting events, including large-scale community festivals and tournaments that brought together expatriates from different walks of life. His contributions were widely appreciated for encouraging participation, cultural pride, and social bonding among Indians living in Bahrain.

Community leaders have remembered Lobo as a committed social worker, a capable administrator, and a person who worked selflessly for the welfare of expatriates.

His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Bahrain’s Indian expatriate community, where his service and leadership will be remembered for years to come.
