Mangaluru: 'Nyagrodha' book released in memory of Jayalakshmi S Hegde at Adyar

Mangaluru, Feb 17: ‘Nyagrodha’, a book brought out in fond memory of Jayalakshmi S Hegde, was formally released at a grand function organised by Jaya Abhyudaya Mahila Mandali (R), Adyar, at the ‘Trinetra’ Vedike, Jayalakshmi Hegde Sabhangana, Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple premises on Sunday, February 16.

The programme was marked by reverence as the book was ceremoniously brought in a traditional palanquin (pallakki) and unveiled amidst applause from the gathering.

Inaugurating the programme, speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly U T Khader lauded the life and values upheld by Jayalakshmi S Hegde. He said the publication of 'Nyagrodha' stands as a tribute to her ideals, service, and motherly affection that touched countless lives.

Former MP and former Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel lit the ceremonial lamp and recalled her simplicity, cultural roots, and compassionate nature. He described her as a personality deeply rooted in Indian tradition and values.

Presiding over the function, Mangaluru North MLA Bharath Shetty said Jayalakshmi was not just a mother to her four children but a motherly figure to society at large. “She was ‘Amma’ to everyone,” he remarked, echoing the sentiments expressed by several speakers. 

Founder and managing director of Daijiworld media, Walter Nandalike, expressed happiness in being part of the programme and noted that remembering noble personalities through literature keeps their values alive in society.

Blessings were imparted by Brahmashri Vamanjoor Anantha Upadhyaya, tantri of Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Adyar, who spoke about her spiritual inclination and noble qualities.

The book, authored and edited by Dr Prabhakar Neermarga, retired deputy registrar of Mangalore University, chronicles the life, journey, and contributions of Jayalakshmi S Hegde, portraying her as a woman of strength, compassion, and cultural depth.

Several dignitaries who shared a close association with her spoke on the occasion, recalling her generosity, leadership, and unwavering support to community causes. On the occasion, felicitations were accorded to close associates, well-wishers, and those involved in the printing and publication of the book.

The event witnessed the presence of community leaders, family members, and admirers, all of whom joined in celebrating the life and legacy of Jayalakshmi S Hegde.
