Bantwal, Mar 7: A massive explosion occurred after firecrackers detonated at a firecracker manufacturing unit at Nooji near Kambalabettu close to Vittal, leaving residents shocked.
Last year, a major explosion occurred in a quarry in the Koré area of Madattadka in Vittal Moodnuru village. The incident had caused damage to nearby houses as well as trees and plants. Moreover, a few years ago, a blast involving explosives at Nooji had resulted in the death of two workers, which had also shocked residents.

Now, once again, a loud explosion was heard in the same locality, causing fear and panic among people. Thick smoke was seen rising high into the sky following the explosion.
It is learnt that a resident of Kambalabettu, identified as Gafur, had prepared and stored firecrackers for a temple fair. The firecrackers reportedly exploded suddenly in the afternoon on Friday due to the heat. Since there were no workers or people present at the spot at the time, no loss of life was reported.
In 2017, a firecracker explosion near the house of Gafur had claimed the lives of two workers on the spot. A case had been registered in connection with that incident, but it is yet to be resolved. Now, another incident has occurred close to the same place.
Revenue inspector Ravi, Vittal police station inspector Prakash Devadiga, Vitla PSI Ramakrishna and other staff visited the spot. Preliminary investigation has revealed that no permission had been obtained to manufacture firecrackers at the location.
