Iran suspects US talks may be ‘ploy’ amid efforts to end war

Tehran, Mar 25: Iran has raised fresh concerns that ongoing negotiations with the United States could be a strategic ploy rather than a genuine attempt to end the conflict, according to media reports.

Sources told The Jerusalem Post that Iranian officials remain deeply sceptical, citing past instances where scheduled talks were followed by military action. “Twice we sat down for talks, twice we scheduled another meeting — and instead of a meeting, we got a war. You lied to us,” an Iranian message conveyed to Washington reportedly said.

The distrust has complicated diplomatic efforts, even as the United States pushes for dialogue to resolve hostilities with Iran.

In an effort to reassure Tehran, senior American leaders, including Vice President JD Vance, have now stepped into the negotiations, signalling that Washington intends to pursue what it describes as “real negotiations” rather than a tactical manoeuvre.

Despite these assurances, Iran’s hesitation highlights the fragile trust deficit between the two sides, posing a major hurdle to any potential breakthrough in talks aimed at ending the conflict.
