Mangaluru: Zomnivelo Khell performance at Kalaangann on Apr 5

Media Release

Mangaluru. Mar 31: Goan theatre has made a unique contribution to the Indian theatrical tradition. Tiatr is a distinctive theatrical experiment that blends Indian drama and musical traditions, foreign opera, and Portuguese linguistic styles.

Khell Tiatr or Zomnivelo Khell is a traditional theatre form of Goa that has evolved by fostering a love for drama among people without the need for a stage, using minimal stage settings and limited space. During the Goa Carnival, several experiments, performances, and competitions of this art form take place. This genre usually consists of a trilogy of story segments.

An experiment of this form is being organized at Kalaangann on Sunday, April 5. Antony de Maina and his team will present Zomnivelo Khell during the 292nd Monthly Theatre Programme held at 6:30 pm. The Tiatr Academy of Goa has sponsored the team, and the academy president, Antony Barbosa, will inaugurate the programme.

Louis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, has requested the audience to arrive in large numbers to experience this unique drama genre to be held on the Easter evening and to encourage the artistes.
