New Delhi, Apr 1: Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has lauded the team of Dhurandhar for drawing audiences back to theatres, expressing appreciation for the film’s strong box office response.

Speaking at the International Film Festival of Delhi 2026, Imtiaz said he had not yet watched the film but acknowledged its popularity among viewers. He congratulated the team for contributing to increased theatre footfall and hoped the trend would continue.

The director also spoke about his upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga, which marks his second consecutive collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh after Amar Singh Chamkila. Imtiaz described working with Diljit as inspiring and called the back-to-back partnership a matter of good fortune.

The film also stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari, and Naseeruddin Shah, and is set against the backdrop of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition, focusing on themes of love and longing.

Music for the film has been composed by A R Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on June 12.

Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead, revolves around an undercover Indian intelligence agent operating in Karachi to dismantle terror networks. The film explores themes of espionage and geopolitics, drawing references from major events such as the Kandahar hijack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The sequel further traces the rise and origins of the protagonist, with performances by actors including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan.
