‘Tumbbad 2’ goes on floors with grand mahurat shoot

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 7: The much-awaited sequel Tumbbad 2 has officially gone on floors, with the team launching the project with a grand mahurat shot in Mumbai.

The film, headlined by Sohum Shah, has generated strong buzz ever since the original Tumbbad returned to theatres in 2024 and found a wider audience. The reported involvement of Nawazuddin Siddiqui has further heightened anticipation.

According to reports, the mahurat ceremony was attended by prominent industry figures including Jayantilal Gada, Dhaval Gada, Boney Kapoor and Tutu Sharma, signalling the scale of the project from the outset.

The shoot is currently underway on an expansive 7–8 acre set in Mumbai, designed to resemble an entire city. The large-scale setup indicates that the sequel is being mounted on a much bigger canvas, with makers aiming to create a more immersive cinematic world.

Directed by Adesh Prasad and backed by Sohum Shah Films, the sequel builds on the cult following of the original, widely regarded as one of the finest Hindi fantasy-folklore films.

Adding to the intrigue, prosthetic designer Shaune Harrison revealed that extensive makeup work is being carried out for key characters. He noted that multiple prosthetic looks have been designed to maintain visual continuity, including separate versions for stunt and acting doubles.

With filming now underway, Tumbbad 2 has entered its next phase, and more updates from the production are expected in the coming months.
