Mangaluru cooker bomb blast case: Sentence for accused to be announced on Apr 17

Bengaluru, Apr 14: The special court for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases will announce the sentence quantum on April 17 for Mohammed Shariq, who is accused in the blast incident that occurred four years ago within the jurisdiction of Kankanady police station in Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada district.

The court recently accepted the confession petition Mohammed Shariq filed three months ago. Further hearing in the case was also held on Friday, during which the judge directed that the sentence to be imposed on the accused would be pronounced on April 17.

In connection with the blast case, NIA officials had filed a chargesheet against Shariq in 2024. On November 19, 2022, at around 4.40 pm, an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed in a cooker had exploded while Shariq was travelling in an auto-rickshaw within the limits of Kankanady police station in Mangaluru.
