Bengaluru, Apr 14: The School Education and Literacy Department has unveiled the much-awaited academic calendar for 2026–27, laying out a structured roadmap for classes, holidays, examinations, and co-curricular activities across all state syllabus government, aided, and unaided schools in Karnataka.
As per the annual academic action plan issued by the commissioner of the Department of School Education and Literacy, the new academic year will officially begin on May 29, 2026, with authorities stressing that early commencement is aimed at ensuring adequate preparatory arrangements and smooth academic delivery.

The department has fixed a total of 245 working days for the academic year, while clearly demarcating instructional and non-instructional periods. The first term will run from May 29 to October 2, 2026, followed by the second term from October 22, 2026, to April 10, 2027.
A major highlight of the calendar is the Dasara holiday break from October 3 to October 21, 2026, offering students a 19-day vacation during the festive season. The subsequent academic cycle will see summer holidays beginning from April 11, 2027.
Officials have also mandated that the distribution of uniforms and textbooks be completed by the first week of June 2026, alongside intensified enrolment campaigns aimed at bringing back children aged 6 to 18 who are out of school and ensuring no child is left behind in the education system.
The calendar further emphasises a tightly structured academic framework, with 181 days earmarked for teaching and learning activities, while the remaining working days are allocated across examinations, evaluations, co-curricular engagement, and administrative responsibilities.
Of the total 365 days in the academic year, 119 days have been classified as holidays. These include 26 days reserved for examinations and assessments, 24 days for co-curricular activities, 10 days for evaluation and result analysis, and four days of local school holidays.
The department has directed all schools to strictly implement the schedule in uniform fashion across the state, underlining that adherence to the academic calendar is essential for consistent educational standards and effective learning outcomes.
